Frequently Asked Questions

  • For a beginner, a digital keyboard will be perfectly fine for developing a solid piano technique (provided it has 88 fully weighted keys) it also has the added benefit of being able to practice with headphones on at any hour of the day.

Depending on the style you wish to play, there may become a point where the expressive elements of your playing will become limited due to the limitations of the digital sound.

  • If you want to make progress, you will need to have a positive relationship to your practice. If you have an hour lesson each week I recommend finding at least the same amount of time or double within the week to assimilate what you learn before the next lesson comes round.

  • Although the grade exams can be a great structured way to learn an instrument. they are by no means the only way. There is a wealth of tutor material and progressive repertoire out there that can help you enjoy playing and develop a good technique at the same time.

  • The Musicians Union recommends a base rate of £38 per hour for 1 to 1 piano lessons, although in London the average rate can be between £45/£50 per hour.

  • It’s never too late to start playing the piano. I have tutored many students who have started well into adulthood and even retirement, who have gone on to being accomplished and confident pianists.

  • I take payment in cash/card of bank transfer. you can either pay as you go, or if you’re looking for more regular lessons you can pay monthly.

  • Anyone can enter themselves for the GCSE music, depending on the exam board. The important thing to consider is the workload for GCSE music is roughly equivalent to at least 50 hours of guided study. which has to be completed withing one full years term.
